About Us
NextFlex, together with our members, recognize that the Hybrid Electronics technology base presents critically important opportunities for U.S. manufacturing. Novel additive technologies are significant and complementary to current advanced packaging trends. Additive technologies can facilitate convergence between advanced packaging and circuit board manufacturing, enabling further miniaturization and system level integration. A diverse and interdisciplinary effort, including novel approaches like additive electronics, is required for the U.S. to lead in the next generation of semiconductor packaging.
NextFlex has a proven track record in industry building, technology development, and Education and Workforce Development (EWD), all of which are essential for growing the industrial base. We are addressing the need for a strong U.S. manufacturing base through these three key areas:
- Expanding the Electronics Manufacturing Ecosystem
NextFlex’s strategic direction is informed by 11 manufacturing technology roadmaps that are continuously updated by Technical Working Groups which are composed of members. We established a model for cost-shared member-driven development projects which promote collaboration between various industry segments, having managed numerous rounds of Project Calls.
Each year, NextFlex hosts member meetings, industry workshops, technology roadmapping sessions, and more than 60 project update webinars each year which all lead to novel teaming and manufacturing partnerships. Several member projects have led to technology transitions like field testing of defense antenna arrays, munitions monitoring, medical devices, and manufacturing tools.
- Providing Access to a Technology Hub for Pilot-Scale Manufacturing
The NextFlex Technology Hub in San Jose, CA, includes a unique combination of tools, including a wide array of printing systems, robotics, pick-and-place manufacturing assembly tools, and laser processing. Our Engineering and Fab teams represent a broad set of experiences and know-how from material science, printing, robotics, design, software and testing, reliability and industrial design. This breadth of know-how has been a key attribute of our capability, enabling us to provide full end-to-end pilot hybrid electronics manufacturing services to our stakeholders and clients. The Tech Hub de-risks processes, advances manufacturing readiness levels, and helps transition technology to the market.
NextFlex has three regional Nodes – in Massachusetts, New York, and Missouri – augmenting and complementing manufacturing capabilities at the NextFlex Technology Hub and thereby extending the hybrid electronics manufacturing network.
- Building the Workforce of Tomorrow
The resurgence of US advanced manufacturing will support and sustain the economy, national security, and US innovation prowess. As part of the Manufacturing USA network, NextFlex is playing a critical role in building the workforce capacity which will ensure US manufacturing remains on the cutting edge. We are bringing awareness of Industry 4.0 into the classroom and then building technical knowledge and skills through structured programming that connects participants to current and future careers. By connecting to diverse and underrepresented talent, we are working to build a future industry equipped to solve our country’s greatest problems. We are committed to innovation in support of electronics manufacturing and the growth of social and economic capital by increasing the accessibility of good, highly skilled jobs which help build thriving communities. Workforce development requires a collective approach with diverse stakeholders, thought leaders and practitioners.
